Technology at the service of hotels is advancing by leaps and bounds and always oriented or promoted by the same objective: improve the user experience during their hotel stay.

Customers currently expect a wide range of information, entertainment and communication services from a hotel with easy access whenever they need them. And in the same way they expect the hotel staff to respond to their needs quickly, taking advantage of all the services provided by network connectivity. This necessary technological implementation is also endorsed by the analyzes carried out by the brands on their hotels, in which it is evident that the world of hotel marketing is changing and that technology has become a key element for the hotel business.

In part, it is the consumer himself who leads hotel chains to be increasingly digital. The customer needs to have easier access to tourism products and services and to be able to execute the purchase immediately and anywhere. For this reason, in recent years, it is increasingly common for newly built or refurbished hotel facilities to have a GPON fiber optic (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network), in which all the hotel's systems converge: closed-circuit video surveillance, IP telephony, Internet access points (WiFi or wired), the IP Television service, room access control, digital signage or the security, among others. This network, which offers greater connectivity, range and bandwidth for the guest, is responsible for providing the hotel with the functionality of its services and improving the user experience.

An added value of these networks, in addition to the functional part, is that the passive fiber optic network (GPON) allows the reduction of the impact on the environment, since thanks to it Up to 84% energy usage savings can be achieved. The energy benefits of this network make it possible to adapt to the measures required to reduce electricity consumption, which in turn make it possible to obtain the LEED Certification (Leadership in energy and environment design) in accordance with the international standard ITU-T. Therefore, a GPON Network contributes significantly to obtaining the LEED Certification for green buildings.
