What is the Next Generation EU?
Next Generation US It is an aid plan launched by the European Union to help companies and sectors that have been most affected by the pandemic caused by Covid-19, including the hotel sector.
This is a very ambitious plan, which will invest 3.400 million euros directly in the tourism sector. Its objective is for the European Union as a whole to emerge stronger from the Covid-19 crisis and to facilitate a positive transformation of the economy and society.
For this reason, this plan is aimed at projects and initiatives characterized by the following objectives and values: environment, sustainability, digital transformation, footing, well-being and health of citizens.
And, this recovery plan has as main objective in Spain to accelerate the digital transition, to which 30% of the investment is being allocated.
Conditions of access to aid and hotel grants
The Temporary Framework approved by the Commission (107.3.b and 107.3.c TFEU) sets the specific conditions for accessing aid, also defining the different instruments through which the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) can be implemented. . The Government of Spain has launched a web where to stay informed of this plan. The Next Generation EU funds will materialize through the General State Budgets and are transferred, through agreements and subsidies, to the Autonomous Communities and Local Entities.

It is expected that, in Spain, the tourism sector in general and the hotel industry in particular will receive significant aid from European funds to alleviate, at least in part, the economic damage caused by COVID-19 and accelerate its reconstruction and recovery.
The use of aid for hotels must be aligned with the philosophy, objectives, axes and lines of action of the Next Generation EU, which revolve around concepts such as digitization, sustainable development, respect for the environment and energy efficiency.
The fundamental objective by which the hotel projects promoted by these aids must be governed is digitalization, since it will serve to make the rest of the resources available to hotel companies more efficient, both in terms of personnel and energy, start-up of services, etc. In other words, optimal digitization will make it much easier to achieve other goals.
